Andrew Guard started out in the wine industry as a Sommelier in 1993 when he worked for Tony Bilson’s Treasury Restaurant. He won the first national Australian Sommeliers award in 1998. A quick stint in Malaysia importing and distributing Australian wine was followed by a year working at the iconic wine store, Ultimo Wine Centre which is where he met Dave Powell. Ultimo Wine Centre used to act as Sydney distributors for Torbreck.
Time spent at dinners and tastings with Dave sealed the friendship and when, in 2001, an opportunity to market Torbreck’s wines in Australia came up it was taken without hesitation.
