Les Amis - Steven Tanzer (IWC)

2006 (100% grenache) Deep, vivid ruby. Strikingly perfumed bouquet of black raspberry, cherry pie, incense and anise. Lush and creamy, with deep, sweet red fruit and bitter cherry flavors complemented by notes of exotic candied flowers and licorice. Supple tannins frame the expansive fruit and add
definition to the long, focused, spicy finish.
2005 100% Grenache. Deep, saturated ruby color. Drop-dead gorgeous aromas of red berry liqueur, cherry-cola, incense and fresh lavender expand with air, taking on smoky mineral and Asian spice qualities. Deeply concentrated raspberry and blackberry compote flavors are enlivened by vibrant minerality and framed by velvety tannins. An extremely sexy wine that leaves an endless finish of berries, kirsch and candied flowers behind. This is already awfully compelling. 94
2003 Dense ruby. Exotic, utterly captivating aromas of blackberry and black cherry liqueur, raspberry jam, star anise, smoked meat and fresh flowers. Lush red and dark berry flavors are perked up by Asian and Moroccan spice notes, with subtle acidity giving added lift and solid, polished tannins providing a firm structural underpinning. The very long finish features fresh dark fruit tones that don't let up. 93
