Descendant - The Wine Companion

2007 Deep colour; an ultra-powerful wine, crammed with flavour, but which hasn't entirely escaped the hot vintage effect. Will settle down, methinks. Shiraz/Viognier. Cork.
Alcohol 15% alc. Rating 93 Drink 2022 $125 Date Tasted Feb 09
2006 Bright colour; thoroughly unusual Shiraz/Viognier, mainly due to the texture and mouthfeel tightly bound within a web of all-embracing furry tannins. Cork.
Alcohol 14.5% alc. Rating 90 Drink 2021 Release Price $125 Date Tasted Jul 08
2005 Immaculate structure, texture and balance; likewise black-fruited shiraz with a subliminal viognier twist, plus licorice and spice; tannins ripe and perfectly weighted. Cork.
Alcohol 14.5% alc. Rating 96 Drink 2025 Release Price $125 Date Tasted Aug 07
2004 Almost impenetrable purple-red colour; marries elegance bordering on restraint with intense blackberry fruit and viognier lift; controlled oak, tannins and alcohol. Shiraz/Viognier. Grapes crushed onto viognier skins. Cork.
Alcohol 14.5% alc. Rating 96 Drink 2024 Release Price $125 Date Tasted Feb 06
2003 Deep colour; full-bodied; very complex, high-toned spicy aromas with the apricot influence of Viognier obvious, but not overdone; excellent texture and structure. High quality cork.
Rating 96 Drink 2023 Release Price $145 Date Tasted Mar 05
2002 Super-intense and powerful, but retains that touch of finesse which is the mark of Torbreck. Lush blackberry fruit with twists of licorice, earth and spice; lingering finish.
Rating 96 Drink 2022 Release Price $125 Date Tasted Mar 04
2001 Full red-purple; opulently rich and scented blackberry and spice aromas feed into a mouthfilling, opulent palate with layers upon layers of flavour, sweet blackberry and blackcurrant providing continuity. Fourteen and a half degrees alcohol is carried easily on the long finish.
Rating 96 Drink 2016 Date Tasted Feb 03
2000 Dense but bright purple-red; intense damson plum and berry fruit aromas foreshadow an opulently rich but well-structured palate, the oak subservient to the fruit, and finishing with lingering, soft tannins. Slightly lighter in style than the Runrig, but still a massive wine.
Rating 94 Drink 2015 Date Tasted Dec 01
1999 Striking, deep purple-red; the bouquet is distinctly gamey and very complex, with a core of dark berry fruits. The powerful palate is even more tannic than the RunRig (at least in relation to its fruit depth, and requires equal patience).
