We are delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Hiscock as our Biodynamic Viticulturist. Pete will be in charge of driving the certification process at our historic Hillside Vineyard, which will progress from this growing season.
Pete has worked for Torbreck on and off since 2005 and has just completed his winemaking degree at Adelaide University. He is extremely passionate and interested in viticulture and biodynamics and it is great to give the position to someone with such hunger.
Since Pete’s appointment he has already undertaken new projects including converting the Grenache at Hillside to bush vines to allow simpler under vine weed management and reduce disease pressure in the canopy. He has cleared introduced tree species and has also begun re-building the fence line to hold livestock. Pete and Vineyard Manager Jason Kohlhagen have also started fermenting some weed tea to treat cape tulip which is a weed that we are required to control in conjunction with the Natural Recourse Management Board.
We are looking forward to seeing the progress as we restore this grand old property to it's former glory. Congratulations Pete!
