The Torbreck team enjoyed a casual BBQ welcoming our 2012 vintage casuals. We spent the day basking in the sunshine while demolishing four dozen locally made sausages and sampling some of Torbreck’s finest; 2006 RunRig, 2009 Les Amis, 2009 Factor (not yet released) and 2009 The Gask. In true Aussie fashion, the day ended with some cleansing ale (more specifically, Peroni’s).
We are excited to get to know our vintage casuals over the next few months. It appears they have all settled nicely into our vintage house located next to our Renshaw vineyard. In a few short weeks, the vintage casuals have already installed a petanque pitch and an in-ground BBQ. Hmm, looks like they might be doing some entertaining...hope we're invitied!
The group has purchased two second hand cars which they are sharing for transport. No doubt they will be visiting Adelaide on their days off to attend some of the festivals and events to include The Garden of Unearthly Delights, Barrio, WOMAD, and the Urban Winery.
We are lucky to have a great bunch of young, enthusiastic, wine lovers from around the globe ... we’d like to take the opportunity to introduce our 2012 vintage crew:
The whole crew, plus some of the Torbreck Team
CHAD

Chad is originally from Mariposa, California and a current resident of San Luis Obispo. He studied Wine and Viticulture at Cal Poly, with a concentration in Viticulture. Prior to Chad’s arrival to Australia, he worked for a vineyard management company, Pacific Vineyard Co. Chad makes a small amount of his own wine at home. He was the first of the vintage crew to arrive and in no time cleaned the house and planted a stack of herbs in the Renshaw garden for plenty of delicious autumn meals for the rest of the gang.
NOEMIE

Noemie comes from Bandol, in the south of France. Her mother is a winemaker and they live next to their vineyard. Noemie studied Event Coordination in college at Isefac Private School after undertaking a Food & Wine course at University. She finds the wineries in Australia much different to those at home and looks forward to visiting many during her stay. Noemie has been living in Australia for three months and was working at Showtime Events in Melbourne prior to vintage. In conjunction with her vintage duties, she is keen to help out with the Harvest Dinner in April. Ahhh such sweet music to Bec Weatherill’s ears!
VALDEMAR

“I’m a great Danish viking” says Valdemar (or maybe it’s his work mates in jest). This blond haired, blue eyed ‘viking’ has been working and travelling in Australia for the last 6 months following his high school graduation. His parents are both chefs which helped developed his passion for food. Naturally, this led him to wine and eventually to working his first vintage at Torbreck. We look forward to breaking him in with a few dig outs.
ROMAIN

Romain comes from a family owned winery in Vaucluse, France. He studied Oenology for six years and has four years vintage experience in France. This is Romain’s first international vintage experience as well as his first time in Australia. Romain plays soccer, enjoys wine tasting and loves discovering other countries and cultures. He would also like to experience a vintage in the USA. Romain has a one year visa and looks forward to travelling our country before returning to the family vineyards in France.
FRANCOIS

Recently graduating from University of Bordeaux in Oenology, Francois is excited to experience global vintages. He just finished a vintage at Screaming Eagle in California and recently joined our vintage crew. After this year Francois would like to travel to Hong Kong, Switzerland or South Africa to further his vintage experience. He will return to France one day to work in his family’s winery. His hobbies include hiking, boating and running his own bee hive at home to make honey.
GREG

Greg, is originally from Oban (west coast of Scotland), but now living in Ireland. Greg plays rugby and has worked for O’Briens Wines as a wine specialist. He studied business and the WSET. This is his first time working in a winery and as well as his first visit to Australia. He is hoping to keep working in wine production. Greg also has a strong interest in Social Media and was last seen reading the recent WBM article on the Qwoff Boys! It’s a pity that the RunRiggers Touch Footy team had already won the grand final this year because Greg would have smashed any competition!
MELISSA

Melissa is from the San Francisco Bay Area and is currently sharing a role with Danielle in our lab, as well as in the winery. She graduated in December from the University of California at Davis with a degree in Viticulture & Oenology. After studying a semester in Siena, Italy, she fell in love with wine and changed her degree from Neurobiology to wine. Following her experience at Torbreck, Melissa will head to Tuscany to work with Antinori. She loves cooking, listening to music and spending time with family.
DANIELLE

Danielle resides in Redwood City, California. She went to University at California Polytechnic State University and studied Oenology with a minor in Wine Business. While this her first visit and harvest in Australia, Danielle has worked vintages in Napa, Sonoma and Barolo. She is obsessed with food and cooking as much as she is with wine. She must be impressed with Chad’s early efforts to establish a veggie/herb garden for her arrival! Danielle plans to continue chasing harvests around the world to gain experience and perspective. Her goal is to someday own her own winery. She has a hidden talent (or maybe not so hidden after working with Scott McDonald) of undertaking one handed push ups! Really giving Craig a run for his money.
Wishing our 2012 vintage crew a fantastic experience at Torbreck! Hope everyone likes getting their hands a bit dirty...
