The 2012 Harvest has officially started at Torbreck with the Brown Frontignac that we craft The Bothie from coming in last Friday and this past Monday. The vineyard is grown and cared for by the Helbig family and is located on Roennfeldt Road, just a stone’s throw from the winery. The fruit has amazing aromatics and it is extremely difficult to stop eating the grapes! Great news for all The Bothie lovers out there, the Acid/Sugar balance in the fruit is as good as I have ever seen it and I am confident we will produce a fantastic wine.

The weather has been perfect since I last blogged and the Shiraz is developing wonderful flavours earlier than expected. I am very excited about the fresh and vibrant acidity in the fruit this year and we just need some sunny weather and cool nights over the next two weeks for the season to really take shape. Thus far I have been slightly cautious about the quality of 2012, but I am much more confident that we can produce some excellent wines now that we are so close to picking. Our vintage casuals only arrive in March so we might have our hands full for the next two weeks with the first of the Shiraz being picked tomorrow.
The next time I type it will be with purple hands. Happy Vintage!
Cheers,
Craig
